Three Chelsea deadline day alternatives to Jules Kounde who Marina Granovskaia may sign

Chelsea's pursuit of Jules Kounde appears to have come to an end after Sevilla refused to lower the price-tag pinned to the talented defender. With less than 48 hours to play with until the window slams shut, transfer chief Marina Granovskaia must quickly consider alternatives if Thomas Tuchel is to get his wish of another centre-back.

After weeks of interest in Kounde, Sevilla have laid all their cards on the table with an extortionate valuation that Chelsea are not prepared to match

It seems as though Chelsea picked the wrong fight, with the Spanish side similarly shunning Manchester City last summer when they made a respectable £50m bid

Thomas Tuchel's need for a new centre-back is not desperate, although Kurt Zouma's departure to West Ham has made another defensive body preferable.

With little time to work with, Express Sport looks at three alternatives for Marina Granovskaia to consider before the end of the window:

An approach from Tottenham was accepted by the Yellow Submarine, although the player turned his nose up at the prospect of moving to north London.

Chelsea, however, are the Champions League holders, so if they could match Spurs' £43 million bid then the deal could progress fairly quickly.

Standing at 6ft 4ins and having amassed 14 caps for the Spanish national team, the Blues would be getting their hands on a serious talent.
