Pep Guardiola has claimed that Ferran Torres reminds him of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News after City’s 5-0 win over Arsenal, Guardiola made the comparison between Torres and Vardy. The Spanish international scored a brace against the Gunners.
Torres started the game as City’s main focal point in the attack, and some of the runs the youngster was making were similar to ones that have made Vardy so lethal in the Premier League.
The former England international has formed a reputation for himself as one of the deadliest strikers in the division. And whilst Torres doesn’t have the pace that Vardy possesses, the comparisons are warranted.
Indeed, Torres himself is not even a natural striker, unlike Vardy. The City attacker started life with Valencia as a creative wide-player before moving to Manchester last summer.
Only since his move to the Premier League has Torres discovered his goalscoring touch. And with the club without a recognised striker, the Spanish international could be an option for City this season.
And on social media, some City supporters are surprised that Guardiola compared Torres to a striker as lethal in the Premier League as Vardy.
